    Pretty much every character in an adventure will have to cook with iron and copper and clay and wooden utensils. Al Jazeera has a nice handy summary of some of the medieval Arabic cookbooks and the differences between fancy and everyday cuisine.

    Thank you for posting this – in fact, I’ve already forwarded this page to my sister. Reminds me of one of the last times I saw her. During that time, she bought an Iranian cookbook, and we made potato pancakes. Wonderful stuff.

    I’m delighted by this as well. I have a copy of the Tacuinum Sanitatis on my shelf, it was enormously influential to the development of European culinary culture and medicine (including the current version of the so called Mediterranean diet) but this article introduces several new interesting avenues for exploration.
